    Project goal: RESJ FACES programs provide racial equity and social justice-centered, community-minded, culturally dynamic, multilingual/multicultural support to African, Asian, Pacific Islander, and Slavic immigrants and Refugee families, caregivers, and students.

    Position Summary: The RESJ FACES program seeks dedicated, responsible, and culturally mindful volunteers to support Pre-K through 5th-grade Immigrant and Refugee students with academic and culturally specific activities at selected schools in the Portland Public School District. An interview, orientation, and background check are required.

    Volunteer Qualifications:

    • Have a passion for helping students achieve their goals
    • Commitment to working with diverse populations and non-native English speakers
    • Fluency in the following languages: Vietnamese, Somali, Tongan, or Russian language ability helpful
    • Provide academic support to PreK-5th grade students in math and literacy
    • Interest in participating in group activities that support family connection, cultural identity, wellness and wellbeing, and cultural sharing within the larger school community
    • Ability to build good relationships with students and parents to pursue the students' academic goals
