Radio Observatory Fundraising Lead

About Us

Titan Astronomical Observatory is a Florida-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to acquire and modernize a 10-meter radio telescope and make it remotely accessible to students, educators, researchers, and the public through an online dashboard.

We have an option contract with the seller, a secured site, core donor materials, and an engaged community following the project. Our current priority is raising the funds needed to purchase and relocate the telescope.

Role Overview

We’re looking for a volunteer to help execute donor outreach for our telescope acquisition campaign. This is a practical, execution-focused role for someone who can help identify prospects, send outreach, track follow-ups, and keep donor conversations moving.

We already have various donor materials, campaign messaging, and project information prepared. The main need is help with execution: contacting potential donors, sponsors, organizations, and community partners who may be willing to support the project.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify prospective donors, sponsors, foundations, local businesses, civic groups, and STEM-aligned organizations.
• Send written outreach using templates and donor materials.
• Adapt outreach messages for different audiences when needed.
• Track prospects, sent messages, responses, and follow-up dates.
• Follow up with prospects who have not responded.
• Help keep outreach organized so opportunities do not fall through the cracks.
• Flag promising leads, questions, or donor concerns for the executive director.
• Suggest practical improvements to outreach based on what is or is not getting responses.

What We’re Looking For

• Comfortable reaching out to people and organizations in writing.
• Clear, professional communication.
• Good judgment when representing a nonprofit project.
• Reliability and follow-through on agreed tasks.
• Ability to work independently without needing constant direction.
• Honest communication about your availability and capacity.
• Interest in astronomy, STEM education, public science, or nonprofit work is a plus.

Experience in fundraising, sales, nonprofit development, sponsorship outreach, grant outreach, or community partnerships is helpful, but not required. The most important qualities are consistency, judgment, and willingness to execute.

Time Commitment

Approximately 4–8 hours per week, remote and flexible.

The role includes regular check-ins with the executive director to review outreach progress, assign priorities, and discuss next steps.

Ideally, we are looking for someone able to commit for at least 4–6 months.
