Position overview
SSCP is seeking an academically strong, organized, and collaborative volunteer to help coordinate the academic component of the Future Physicians Pathway Program.
The Volunteer MCAT Academic Lead will help students establish realistic study plans, coordinate tutoring support, monitor learning progress, and maintain a structured preparation experience. This individual will work with SSCP leadership, subject tutors, medical student mentors, and other volunteers.
This is an opportunity for an experienced MCAT educator, medical student, physician, pre-health educator, or academic professional to contribute to an organized and supportive learning environment.
Key responsibilities
- Help develop and maintain the program's 12-week academic preparation schedule.
- Coordinate MCAT subject tutoring across biology, biochemistry, general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, psychology, sociology, and critical analysis and reasoning skills, according to available tutor expertise.
- Help identify appropriate practice materials, study resources, and diagnostic assessments.
- Assist students in creating individualized study schedules and manageable weekly goals.
- Coordinate tutor assignments based on student needs and volunteer availability.
- Communicate with tutors regarding lesson coverage, scheduling, and student progress.
- Help identify when students may need additional academic support or prerequisite coursework before advancing toward an MCAT test date.
- Review attendance and available assessment data to help evaluate the academic component.
- Participate in periodic program check-ins with SSCP leadership.
- Recommend improvements to strengthen future cohorts.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience teaching, tutoring, coordinating, or supporting MCAT preparation.
- Strong knowledge of the MCAT format and its content areas.
- Experience with educational planning, academic coaching, or curriculum development.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with volunteers and students from varied educational backgrounds.
- Commitment to a respectful, strengths-based, and holistic approach to student development.
- Required Qualification: Applicants must have taken and passed the MCAT with a high score. Proof of MCAT completion and score verification will be required as part of the volunteer screening process. Documentation must be submitted for review and verification before placement.
MCAT teaching or curriculum experience is strongly preferred. Candidates without extensive MCAT experience may be considered for a coordinating role if they have relevant academic program management experience.

- An opportunity to support aspiring physicians.
- Experience coordinating a structured academic support initiative.
- Opportunities to collaborate with educators, medical students, physicians, and community partners.
- Documentation of volunteer service upon request and subject to SSCP's verification procedures.
