As a Grocery Rescue Assistant, you’ll be part of a vital process that collects, sorts, and organizes donations from local grocery stores. Your work directly supports our mission of providing nutritious food to the downtown community while helping to minimize food waste.
Shifts Available:
- Mondays: 9:00 am - 11:30 am
- Wednesdays: 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Your Role:
- Assist with Pickups: Accompany a staff member or volunteer driver to grocery stores to retrieve donations, following established procedures.
- Transport Donations: Safely lift and move carts and boxes (20-60 lbs) from stores to the food bank.
- Sort Donations: Weigh, categorize, and quality check donations to ensure they meet safety standards.
- Organize Items: Tag and store items in designated areas to maintain an efficient system.
- Clean & Support: Keep the work area clean, including the weigh station, and assist with additional food bank tasks as needed.
You Are:
- Reliable and punctual, understanding the importance of timing in food rescue operations.
- Comfortable with repetitive lifting and handling boxes weighing up to 60 lbs.
- Detail-oriented and able to follow sorting and quality-check procedures.
- Collaborative and willing to assist with other tasks to support the food bank.
- Able to commit to at least 4 months in the role.
