Position Overview
The Counseling & Behavioral Services Volunteer supports the school’s efforts to promote students’ academic success, social-emotional development, positive behavior, and overall well-being. The volunteer works under the direction of qualified school personnel and assists with student support activities, resource coordination, and positive behavioral interventions.
Responsibilities
- Support students with social-emotional and behavioral needs.
- Assist school staff with student support activities and programs.
- Help promote positive behavior, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Assist with social-emotional learning activities and student development programs.
- Provide appropriate encouragement and mentorship to students.
- Help identify and communicate student concerns to designated school personnel.
- Assist with behavioral support plans and classroom strategies as directed by qualified staff.
- Participate in student-support meetings when appropriate and authorized.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding student information.
- Help connect students and families with appropriate school or community resources.
- Support a safe, respectful, inclusive, and welcoming school environment.
Qualifications
- Interest in counseling, psychology, education, behavioral science, social work, or student services preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, professionalism, and compassion when working with students.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.
- Commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
- Previous experience working with children or adolescents is preferred but not required.
Important Scope of Role
This is a volunteer support position and does not independently provide psychological diagnosis, psychotherapy, clinical treatment, psychological testing, or other services requiring professional licensure. Volunteers work within the scope permitted by applicable laws and school policies and under appropriate supervision.

Volunteers are expected to demonstrate professionalism, reliability, respect, confidentiality, and a student-centered approach in all interactions.
This position is unpaid and intended to provide meaningful service and support to the school community.
