Finance Committee members

The British Charitable Society, a storied nonprofit foundation, is looking for New England-based volunteers to join our Finance Committee and help oversee our accounts and manage our endowment.

First established back in 1816, we work across the six New England states to support British citizens and those from the British Overseas Territories in crisis. We provide financial aid to ease the crisis and help plot a pathway through. But our value is more than just financial; we provide much needed care and support to those in need. That kindness alone can make the difference between despair and hope.

The Finance Committee ensures we have the fiscal capacity to carry out our relief efforts. They support our Treasurer in overseeing our overall financial health, audit accounts and transactions, and ensure financial sustainability through managing our investment portfolio.

Suitable candidates for the Finance Committee will:

• Strong financial or accounting experience;
• Demonstrate a keen interest in the purpose and mission of BCS, with kindness and compassion for those BCS assists;
• Marry a precise eye for detail with strategic decision-making;
• Ideally have strong links with, or knowledge of, the United Kingdom or its overseas territories;
• Be welcoming and compassionate to all regardless of race, age, gender, sexuality, ability or religious beliefs.

With a low time requirement and a pathway to nonprofit Board membership, this would be an ideal role for either an early-career financial professional seeking experience or a seasoned financial pro able to give a little time to help those in need.
