Descripción
If you can spare two hours a week, you can make a positive difference in the life of another adult through tutoring! Oakland Literacy Council in suburban Detroit is looking for compassionate volunteers who are at least 18 years old to help adult immigrants expand their knowledge of the English language.
Our tutors:
- meet their student for two hours a week for a year (with time off for vacations and holidays)
- set their own schedule
- meet their student at a public location like a library
- can use our curriculum.
Our tutors provide help with speaking, reading, and listening skills. A typical lesson might help a learner prepare to visit a doctor, shop for groceries, interview for a job, or speak to a child's teacher at conferences. This is a rewarding volunteer opportunity where you see the impact of your work directly in your student’s life!
No previous tutoring experience is required. Six hours of training and curriculum are provided.
This is a perfect opportunity for retirees, empty-nesters, college students and those taking a gap year.
