Become an Advocate for Youth in Foster Care!

Apply for our next Pre-Service Training session!

Learn how you can make a difference in the life of a child or youth who has exeprienced abuse or neglect. You can support the 300 youth in foster care who need an advocate for their best interests.

#ChangeaChildsStory. Help a Child. Become a CASA Volunteer!

    Apply today: http://bit.ly/APPLYpgcasa

CASA Volunteers help us support youth (ages 0-21) in foster care through mentoring and advocacy in Prince George’s County, MD. Currently, CASA/Prince George’s County serves more than 200 children in care. However, there are still about 300 children who need a CASA, but there is a lack of volunteer advocates available. By becoming a CASA Volunteer today, you can help us change a child's story and positively impact the lives of youth in foster care.

    Duties:

    • Mentor a child or teen twice a month.
    • Write a court report advocating for the child or teen’s best interests.
    • Present the recommendations in the court report twice a year at civil court hearings.

    Qualifications:

    • Enjoy working with children and teens.
    • Ability to maintain youth’s confidentiality.
    • Open to learning about child welfare.

    Time Requirements:

CASA volunteers are required to volunteer 2-3 hours per week, which includes meeting with their assigned child or teen twice a month and communicating with the important adults in the child/teen’s life. Also, there is a minimum 1-year commitment to the case for consistency for our youth.

    Training:

    • Pre-service training - 30-hour training to learn about trauma-informed volunteering and the impact a CASA volunteer makes on the life of a youth.
    • Ongoing in-service training - 12 hours per year to learn about relevant topics to youth today (i.e. disability, educational needs, mental health first aid, etc.)

    Benefits:

    • Free professional training.
    • Support and supervision from CASA Case Supervisors for advice and support during your case.
    • Opportunity to make a difference in your community.
