Content Creator (Writer / Social Media)

[About Work on Climate] At Work on Climate, our mission goes beyond job matchmaking. We’re building a platform to propel meaningful climate action, concentrating on one of the most critical yet overlooked aspects—nurturing a robust climate work ecosystem.

Being a part of our volunteer team isn’t merely about being a member of a community. It’s an invitation to immerse yourself in real-world impact, to tackle pressing climate sub-problems that demand skilled minds to bridge the talent gap, essential for the climate-centric economy we envision.

[About the team] Today our Marketing team is 10 total members geo-located across North America and Europe. Our standard meeting schedule is on Thursday from 11:00-12:00pm PT.

Time commitment

~5 hours/week consistently for the next 6+ months (we’d like a minimum of 6 months, and love it when volunteers stay on longer!)

What will I do?

This opportunity has a focus on writing and thought leadership! Whether that’s short form writing for our social media, or long form writing for our blog, there are opportunities to create a variety of content types at Work on Climate.

This includes:

1. Social Media Strategy: Content creation including copywriting, graphics (we have Canva templates), video editing, etc. for our LinkedIn; monitor and oversee engagement, updating the team with reports at the end of the month.
2. Storytelling: Craft engaging narratives [thought leadership!] that effectively convey our organization’s message, values, and impact to inspire and connect with our audiences.
3. Collaboration: Collaborate with the marketing team as well as adjacent teams (Events, Subco, Impact Research, etc.) to align with overall marketing strategies and campaigns.
4. Research: Partner with our research team on relevant topics and our organization’s initiatives to ensure accurate and up-to-date content.
5. Brand Consistency: Maintain consistency in tone, style, and messaging to ensure a cohesive brand identity across all content. (This one is super important! We have established Brand Guidelines to help with this.)

What skills and commitment do I need?

• Prior professional experience in writing, content creation, social media strategy, and/or journalism (examples of work are necessary + helpful!)
• Strong written communication skills, as well as creativity, curiosity, and attention to detail – a strong drive to get the little things right without being told to, or needing someone to check your work.
• High autonomy and reliability, being able to commit to Expectations for a WoCl volunteer for the next 6 months.
• Be reliable and collaborative!

Common Challenges

• Create content that is within the WoCl voice + brand.
• Minimal oversight and management – we need someone who is deeply familiar with writing + social media who can see gaps and push initiatives to address those gaps.
• Asynchronous work: ****Our team usually works asynchronously, and coordinates work primarily through Slack and Asana. You’ll need to be comfortable proactively communicating progress and asking for help when you need it.
