Youth After-School Tennis and Mentorship
About The Village League
The Village League is a youth development nonprofit that uses tennis, mentorship, and life skills programming to help young people build confidence, discipline, leadership, and a strong sense of purpose.
Guided by our motto, “It takes a village to raise a Champion,” we create opportunities for young people to develop on and off the court through meaningful relationships, structured athletic instruction, and mentorship.
We are seeking passionate and dependable volunteer tennis coaches to support our after-school programming for youth in the Bronx and Queens.
Position Overview
As a Volunteer Tennis Coach, you will introduce young people to the game of tennis, help them develop their skills, and foster a positive environment built on sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth.
Working alongside The Village League team, you will help deliver engaging tennis sessions that accommodate different skill levels, from beginners learning the fundamentals to more experienced players developing their technique and strategy.
This is an opportunity for coaches who want to share their love of tennis, invest in the next generation, and make a meaningful contribution to their local community.

- Teach fundamental tennis skills, including grip, footwork, strokes, serving, rallying, and basic game rules.
- Develop age-appropriate drills and activities that encourage skill development and participation.
- Promote sportsmanship, discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and respect.
- Create a safe, welcoming, and encouraging environment for young athletes of varying experience levels.
- Collaborate with The Village League staff and fellow volunteers to support program goals.
- Serve as a positive role model and encourage participants to build confidence both on and off the court.
- Follow organizational policies and youth safety guidelines.
Qualifications
- Experience playing tennis and a genuine interest in teaching young people.
- Previous coaching, teaching, mentoring, or youth development experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong communication skills, patience, reliability, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to work effectively with children and teenagers of different ages and skill levels.
- Commitment to youth development, sportsmanship, and creating a safe learning environment.
- Willingness to complete required screening, training, and youth safety procedures.
We welcome applications from experienced tennis coaches, tennis professionals, college and high school tennis players, and dedicated recreational players who are interested in volunteering their skills.
Time Commitment
Volunteers will support our after-school tennis programming on a mutually agreed-upon schedule. Availability for recurring sessions is preferred to help build consistency and meaningful relationships with participants.
Specific days, times, and program locations will be discussed during the volunteer onboarding process.
