A Vigil Volunteer provides physical, emotional, and spiritual comfort during the last 24-48 hours of life. Most of the work is by the bedside in private homes, skilled nursing facilities, residential care facilities, Westland House, or at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comfort, companionship and soothing presence with patients during their last 24-48 hours of life.
- Attend patients at the beside and recognize the needs of the patient as they approach the end of their lives.
- May assist the patient/ family with providing respite, friendly visits, offering emotional support, companionship and supportive listening.
- Demonstrate ability to provide confidential, non-judgmental and compassionate care for all ages in a religiously and culturally diverse environment.
- Document time spent with patients in a timely manner.
- Communicate any concerns to the Hospice staff and Volunteer Coordinator.
