    Location: Remote with NYC-based collaboration as needed

    About Mentor A Promise

    Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit serving children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability through mentorship, literacy, social-emotional learning (SEL), creative expression, and community-based programs. MAP’s mentors are a cornerstone of our work—providing consistency, safety, and care for young people navigating instability.

    Training at MAP is not transactional. It is developmental, trauma-informed, ethically grounded, and designed to protect children while supporting mentors to grow in confidence and skill.

    About PromiseLearning | Education Division

    PromiseLearning oversees MAP’s curriculum, pedagogy, mentor development, and educational quality across programs. The division ensures that learning experiences—for both youth and mentors—are aligned with evidence-based SEL, child safety standards, and MAP’s mission and values.

    Role Overview

    We are seeking a Director of Mentor Training & Development to own the full mentor learning lifecycle—from onboarding to advanced practice. This senior leadership role sets the philosophy, standards, and systems that guide how mentors are prepared, supported, and developed across MAP programs.

    The Director works closely with the Chief of Education and Program Directors (MAP Roots & MAP Connect) to ensure mentor training is aligned with curriculum, trauma-informed practice, child safety, ethics, and legal compliance.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Own and steward MAP’s mentor training philosophy, standards, and learning framework
    • Oversee all mentor training content, materials, and facilitators
    • Ensure alignment of mentor training with MAP curriculum and SEL frameworks
    • Integrate trauma-informed practice, child safety, ethics, and legal compliance into all training
    • Partner with Legal / PromiseTrust to ensure training reflects current policies and safeguards
    • Collaborate with Program Directors to tailor training to program-specific needs
    • Establish onboarding, refresher, and advanced training pathways for mentors
    • Support quality assurance, feedback loops, and continuous improvement in training
    • Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via email and chat in Google Workspace

    Qualifications

    • Experience in education leadership, SEL, social work, youth development, or related fields
    • Strong understanding of trauma-informed systems and practices
    • Experience designing, leading, or overseeing training programs
    • Ability to translate complex concepts into clear, supportive learning experiences
    • Strong collaboration and leadership skills
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred Skills

    • Experience working with mentors, volunteers, or educators
    • Familiarity with child safety, ethics, and compliance in youth-serving organizations
    • Experience developing facilitator guides, training curricula, or learning pathways
    • Comfort working cross-functionally with legal, program, and education teams
    • Experience supporting distributed or remote learning environments

    Commitment

    • Volunteer senior leadership role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Fully remote with optional NYC-based collaboration
