Are you 55+ and looking to stay active and involved? Consider becoming a Senior Companion! Senior Companions are AmeriCorps volunteers who provide companionship to Seniors in their community. A recent study found that nearly one fourth of adults 65 or older are socially isolated and we learn more every day about how the stress of loneliness can have enormous detrimental mental and physical health effects. Volunteers, on the other hand, not only improve the health of their communities-but lower their own risk of dementia, heart-disease, stroke and chronic pain! Add to all these benefits a small stipend for folks who qualify, training, recognition. and you have a program that is a win-win for everyone involved!
