Aspiring to learn about and from people of different backgrounds? To expand your world view?
And want to do it all in LA? Yes?!?
Well, it IS possible. Volunteer in the heart of Little Tokyo, in Downtown Los Angeles at the Japanese American National Museum (JANM)!
Share the Japanese American story with our diverse audiences. You’ll hear many unique and distinct stories of lives that together form the American experience. Here are two of many ways to do this at JANM.
- Support our gallery educators in facilitating interactive school group tours of our core exhibition In the Future We Call Now: Realities of Racism, Dreams of Democracy.
- Craft with students to create one of the Museum’s four designated origami pieces
Volunteers needed for morning four hour shifts on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Minimum of one shift per month required with a one year commitment.
No museum or guide experience needed.

Knowledge provided through instruction and active learning.
Exhibition content training sessions will become available online in July 2026.
