    Volunteering in Uganda - AFRICA

Are you seeking a meaningful and exciting mission trip in AFRICA? Would you like to help change the lives of children living impoverished communities? Volunteering in Uganda is a perfect way to experience this amazing country and help children in need at the same time.

Hands-on work involves but is not limited to teaching children, painting, attending to kids at the project schools, photography, singing, dancing, games, fundraising, grant writing, home visits, construction, community outreach, cooking and serving children food, office work, working with skills development projects for youth, women and other schools, church, and community-related programs.

No specific skills are required, just have passion and love for children, youth and be social. You must have yearned for a long time to help someone in greatest need. You do not have to be so qualified or experienced to join the project, whether you want to volunteer during your gap year, career break, or vacation you will have a role to play, and your efforts will make a lasting impact.

We know that International Mission Work is not for everyone. However, our community school and organisation are always in need of volunteers. Maybe you feel called to lead a medical team wishing to gain field experience and help beyond your neighbourhood! Maybe you are a Teacher willing to help with your skills, more tools and ideas to reach our students in new ways. Come hold a workshop! Maybe you are a builder or contractor with tools, techniques, and expertise that will enable us to build our new classrooms and toilets plus renovations faster! Maybe you just love kids and want to come to show our kids they are valuable! We welcome any and all visitors. We know that stepping outside of their comfort zone will change their life forever. Maybe they can help us achieve our mission in a personal way.

    KNOW YOUR COUNTRY OF DESTINATION

UGANDA is honestly the most beautiful and safest country in Africa, the people, the food, the wildlife you will fall in love with it all. Your Stay & mission time in Uganda will give you some more feeling about the wildlife which holds most of the national parks, Mountain Gorillas, forests, falls, rivers, wildlife, birds, resorts, beaches, culture, slum tours, among others. The host family can arrange for you transport and get yourself a chance to visit some beautiful Ugandan features at reasonable rates.

Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa whose diverse landscape encompasses the snowcapped Rwenzori Mountains and immense Lake Victoria. Its abundant wildlife includes chimpanzees, as well as rare birds. Remote Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a renowned mountain gorilla sanctuary. Murchison Falls National Park in the northwest is known for its 43m-tall waterfall and wildlife such as hippos, not forgetting the source of the Nile River.

    MORE THINGS TO KNOW

    Entebbe International Airport:

Is the principal international airport of Uganda. It is near the town of Entebbe, on the shores of Lake Victoria, and approximately 40.5 kilometers by road south-west of the central business district of Kampala, the capital and largest city of Uganda.

    Passport:

A valid passport is required for entry into Uganda. Please make sure that your passport is not expired.

    Uganda Tourist Visa:

The Easiest Way for a Ugandan Visa is to apply on Arrival at Point of Entry such as Entebbe: Most travellers Choose the on-arrival way of obtaining their Ugandan Visa. It costs a flat 50USD, no extra fees; it is the most convenient way for most. Those that want their Ugandan Visa settled before Arrival can apply online or with the Ugandan Embassy that is in their home country.

VISA: A single entry visa is required for entry into Uganda. An entry visa for citizens from North & South America, Europe and Oceania and some Asian countries, can be obtained at the Entebbe airport in Uganda, upon our arrival. We are suggesting that visitors or everyone on the mission team proceeds this way. You will need to present your valid passport, your medical card showing you have been vaccinated for yellow fever, invitation letter and a fee of US$50 at the visa desk at the airport to receive your visa.

    Weather:

The temperature will be in the 70’s and 80’s with high humidity, cooling off in the evenings. There is also the possibility of an occasional rain shower.

    Exchanging Money:

For the best rate and easiest method of exchanging money you will need to bring UK - pound sterling, Canadian dollar and US$100, bills dated 2003 or newer for exchange. Exchange Rates; US $1 = 3400UGX, UK £1 = 4000UGX, CAD $1=2900UGX

    Dressing Code:

As a general rule, dress should be modest, but comfortable. We recommend light weight clothing. It will be warm and humid. Rain is also a good possibility at times. Men, in particular, should plan to bring ample shirts. With the exception of church services on Sunday, men can wear comfortable slacks or jeans, t-shirts or light-weight short sleeve shirts.

Women can wear comfortable slacks or pants for free time and non to ministry activities, however long dresses or capris are appropriate when engaged in church. Shoes should also be comfortable. Tennis shoes/walking shoes would be appropriate. Sandals if durable and water proof, due to the possibility of rain and mud. For church on Sunday, the Ugandan people will come wearing their best. Women should wear a full-length sundress. Men should wear slacks, and a dress shirt. Ties are recommended but not required.
