Project Manager – Advocacy
A Member of the Client Services Committee
Coalition to End Homelessness (CTEH)
The Coalition to End Homelessness (CTEH) is committed to ending homelessness through advocacy, education, and the provision of limited coordinating services. We are seeking a strong and dedicated advocate to help strengthen our advocacy efforts both locally and nationally.
Most people are unaware of the number of individuals experiencing homelessness in their own communities. This includes thousands of children. Many people are also unaware of the causes of homelessness or the solutions that are available. The goal of this position is to help raise awareness about the realities of homelessness, the reasons it occurs, and the steps that can help address it.
The Project Manager for Advocacy will help develop and implement advocacy and educational initiatives designed to increase public understanding of homelessness and related issues such as living wages, escalating housing costs, and the fact that many people experiencing homelessness are working.
Responsibilities
The Project Manager for Advocacy will assist the Coalition by helping to:
The Project Manager may also help identify new opportunities for outreach and public education that can strengthen understanding of homelessness and reduce stigma.
Why This Work Matters
More in recent years, those without housing are often viewed as less than human. This contributes to stigma and discrimination against individuals who are already facing extremely difficult circumstances. It can also intensify efforts to criminalize homelessness and increase opposition to programs designed to help those in need.
Advocacy plays an important role in helping communities better understand the realities of homelessness and in encouraging thoughtful and compassionate responses to the issue.
Committee Participation
This position relates to the Client Services Committee, which is active in many of the Coalition’s initiatives and programs. The Project Manager is encouraged to attend committee meetings or provide updates to the committee regarding advocacy activities and progress.
Time Commitment
We estimate that this opportunity will require an average of about ten hours per month, although some months may require more time and others less depending on advocacy initiatives or events. This opportunity can be performed virtually by the right person. Volunteers generally have flexibility in choosing their hours, but we are looking for someone who can contribute approximately two to six hours per week on an ongoing basis. Ideally, we are looking for someone who is willing to remain involved with the Coalition for at least one year.
Skills and Experience
We welcome volunteers from many backgrounds. Experience in the following areas may be helpful:
• Advocacy, policy, or community outreach experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to organize or assist with awareness campaigns or educational events
• Research and information gathering skills
• Ability to work independently and follow through on responsibilities
Volunteer Perspective
The Coalition relies heavily on volunteers to carry out much of its work. Because volunteers donate their time and energy, their ideas and perspectives are valued.
The individual who takes on this role may bring their own interests and insights into the work, helping to shape advocacy efforts while supporting the broader goals of the Coalition.
