    The Right Kind of Black Girl (TRKBG) Board Member Recruitment Announcement

    The Right Kind of Black Girl (TRKBG) is seeking new members for its Board of Directors. The

    TRKBG Board of Directors provides oversight and counsel on planning and policy development, financial

    oversight, and resource development.

    About TRKBG

    The Right Kind of Black Girl Inc. (TRKBG) is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt not-for-profit organization founded in 2018 by Shambria Williams. Our mission is to provide a pathway to freedom through unity, advancement, and living a life of wholeness. We are committed to building a world where we thrive,uplift their communities, and each other as they journey to greatness.

    Vision

    We envisions a world where Black people, especially self identifying Black women and girls are not simply surviving but thriving. We take a holistic approach to supporting self identifying Black women and girls between the ages of 15 and 60 who want to make positive changes in their lives.

    What we offer

    By being on a non profit board of directors, you will be able to combine your drive to make the world a better place with the opportunity to enhance and develop your leadership skills. On the board, you will join other members from different professional backgrounds united by a willingness to learn from the TRKBG community and each other.

    We strive to provide opportunities for leadership and networking in the form of board retreats, participation in training, mentorship, public speaking, project management, and much more. We value each individual’s story and interests, and we are open to working together to find an ideal fit for each new member.

    Who We Are Looking For

    We are looking for committed members who share our goal of being a resource to our communities, and who have the time and the willingness to share their expertise and network with TRKBG. Particularly, we are looking for individuals with interest and expertise in law, marketing, education, non-profit governance, mental health, finance, and fundraising, but we are excited to hear from people with other areas of interest and knowledge who would like to work with us.

    While we are a grassroot organization with initiatives taking place locally in Los Angeles, we welcome qualified and motivated applicants from outside the area.

    Currently we are looking for individuals who might have some of the qualities below:

    • Represent the communities we serve and work with
    • Have connection and is willing to connect TRKBG to foundations and potential sponsors, high level professionals in the space of: financial investing, professional development, wellness and mental health, and seasoned entrepreneurs.
    • Have experience with nonprofit strategy planning, such as measuring program impact and establishing a decision framework for our continued expansion
    • Have experience in marketing, communication, and networking
    • Experience in accounting, grant writing, and/or fund development a plus.

    Responsibilities of the Board of Directors

    The Board of Directors is the governing body of a non profit organization. Boards are responsible for overseeing the activities of the organization, ensuring accountability of resources, and acting in good faith. As a board member, you will:

    • Participate in board meetings (once every month) and retreats (once or twice a year)
    • Willing to reach out to personal resources who can be helpful for the organization
    • Provide strategic guidance, support and feedback on ongoing and future projects
    • Provide fiduciary oversight, i.e. review and approve budget
    • Oversee compliance with legal requirements
    • Organize, lead, or help with fundraising initiatives
    • Engage in donor relationship building: i.e. writing thank you notes or making thank you calls to donors
    • Expand organization’s network and reach
    • Attend or volunteer for TRKBG events as needed
    • Be a steward of TRKBG's mission, promote and advocate programs and organization’s mission among their network

    Individual Responsibilities

    Within the framework of supporting TRKBG's aims, we ask that each board member individually commit to:

    • Time commitment: average of 8 hours a month
    • Attend at least 10 out of 12 monthly board meetings every year (currently via video calls/ some may be in person)
    • Attend at least 4 TRKBG event per year (if you’re local)
    • Giving pledge: A minimum of $4000 yearly giving or individual fundraising goal or service commitment
    • Willing to communicate periodically between meetings
    • Proactively participate in fundraising efforts by either reaching out to personal and professional networks, leading and participating in fundraising events
    • Attend public events to increase the visibility of our mission
