Purpose:
To provide compassionate, non-medical support to patients and families, enhancing comfort, dignity, and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide companionship through conversation, reading, music, or presence.
- Offer caregiver relief by sitting with the patient while family members take breaks.
- Assist with life review activities (memory books, storytelling, legacy projects).
- Provide emotional support to patients and families.
- Participate in Veteran-to-Veteran volunteer visits (if applicable).
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to Gentiva Hospice policies.
- Report visit notes and observations to the Volunteer Coordinator in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
- Compassionate, dependable, emotionally mature.
- Ability to maintain clear boundaries and respect patient/family beliefs and choices.
- Good listener, comfortable being present during sensitive or quiet moments.
- Completion of Gentiva Hospice orientation, training, and background checks.
Time Commitment:
Flexible—typically 1–4 hours per week or based on availability.
