Adult Literacy Tutor - Teach Someone to Read...Change a Life!
Descripción
Descripción
Literacy is the key to independence, self-sufficiency and pride. Help empower someone by providing them with the tools needed to access all of life's possibilities. 1-2 hours a week can change someone's life - and your life, too. Literacy Plus, Hayward Public Library's adult literacy program, conducts a free, online training for new volunteer tutors three times per year.
Volunteers must complete an online Tutor Training course, attend the live Zoom orientation, and attend the in-person Tutor Training. For additional information, visit https://www.hayward-ca.gov/public-library/services/adult-literacy-tutoring, call Literacy Plus at 510-583-8557, or email EdServices@hayward-ca.gov
Literacy Tutor Qualifications: Tutors must be 18 or older, speak English clearly, and have good reading and writing skills. You do not need a teaching background to be a tutor. Tutors must also commit to 1 to 2 hours of tutoring a week for at least six months. All tutor applicants must pass a background check and fully participate in the tutor training sessions. Volunteers must be located in the surrounding area*
We offer a hybrid Tutor Orientation and Training. It will be broken down into 4 parts:
- Online Orientation Tutorial (Self-Guided): takes approximately 1 hour to complete in your own time
- Zoom Orientation Session
- Online Tutor Training Tutorial (Self-Guided): takes approximately 2 hours to complete in your own time
- In-person Tutor Training Session
