We are currently seeking a committed and community-oriented individual to join our Board of Directors in the role of Treasurer. This is a volunteer leadership position for a minimum 1-year term. As Treasurer, you will help guide the financial strategies of our organization and provide fiscal oversight that supports our mission and sustainability.
Your Responsibilities:
Support the financial health of the organization through oversight and strategic insight (bookkeeping is handled separately)
Review and present monthly financial statements, budgets, and reports to the board at Board Meetings
Monitor cash flow and financial trends.
Work with staff (or the Executive Director) and accountants to ensure financial integrity.
Assist in the development of the annual budget.
Ensure the budget aligns with strategic priorities.
Track budget-to-actual performance throughout the year.
Help ensure the organization complies with financial regulations, including filing IRS Form 990 and maintaining nonprofit tax-exempt status.
Support the annual audit or financial review.
Translate financial information into accessible updates
Help the board understand and make informed financial decisions.
Works closely with the Executive Director, Finance Committee, and/or bookkeeper.
May be involved in grant budget tracking or fund allocation decisions.
Ensures financial policies are in place and followed (e.g., conflict of interest, expense reimbursements, reserves).
Help develop and review internal controls and risk management strategies.
Attend bi-monthly board meetings (virtual), and participating in fundraising strategy sessions
Identify both monetary and in-kind resources
Promote Darkness RISING’s programming and community outreach
Serve as a thought partner on organizational strategy and growth
