Position Title: Career Compass Program Coordinator

    Organization: Young STEAMers

Location: Remote (with occasional local events in the Bay Area, CA)

    Commitment: Volunteer (5–15 hrs/week)

    About Young STEAMers

Young STEAMers is a San Francisco Bay Area nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring children to explore science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) and guiding them toward STEM careers. At Young STEAMers, we believe a child’s zip code should never limit their potential. We provide free, high-impact STEAM education to low-income Bay Area kids aged 4–14 and STEM career guidance for youth aged 14-24. Our hands-on programs blend academic content with creativity and real-world application to spark curiosity, build confidence, and expand opportunity. We engage local talent by training high school students as classroom aides and hiring college students as instructors, creating a full-circle model of community-led education. Together, we’re opening doors so that talent, not circumstance, shapes a child’s future in STEAM.

    About the Career Compass Program

The Career Compass Program represents Young STEAMers' innovative approach to career exploration and workforce development for middle school, high school, and community college students. Through monthly virtual career panels, live Q&A sessions with industry professionals, career fact sheets, and a growing digital library of recorded sessions, the program helps students see clear, attainable pathways into STEM careers. By highlighting professionals who have overcome challenges and pursued different educational routes, Career Compass empowers students to envision new possibilities and make informed decisions about their futures.

    Position Overview

The Career Compass Program Coordinator will manage the planning, execution, and evaluation of Career Compass events and resources. This role requires strong organizational skills, comfort with virtual platforms, and a passion for helping students connect with career pathways. The Coordinator will work closely with Young STEAMers staff, board members, and community partners to ensure smooth logistics and impactful programming. Ideally, we are seeking a candidate who can grow into an overall coordinator role, but we welcome volunteers who are willing to work with us in any of these development phases.

    • Coordinate monthly virtual career panels, including scheduling, panelist outreach, and event facilitation
    • Recruit and support industry professionals who participate as panelists and mentors
    • Develop and maintain career fact sheets that include educational requirements, salary ranges, local training programs, and job opportunities
    • Manage communications and outreach to schools, students, and families
    • Track program participation, collect feedback, and prepare evaluation reports
    • Oversee and expand the digital library of recorded sessions for ongoing student access
    • Collaborate with the Young STEAMers team to align Career Compass with broader organizational goals

    Qualifications

    • Strong organizational and project management skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Comfort with virtual platforms (Zoom, Google Meet, etc.) and digital tools
    • Experience in education, workforce development, youth programming, or career readiness (preferred)
    • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a small nonprofit team
    • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and empowering underserved students

    What We Offer

    • Opportunity to shape an innovative workforce development program
    • Meaningful engagement with students and professionals making a difference
