    Job Summary

    Pro Bono: This position is tailored to a professional who wants to give back by contributing engineering professional skills. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and can help us optimize and manage our costs and traffic on AWS. We need you for some hours over the next month to help review our AWS account and reduce costs. AWS is currently charging too much. Once the system is set up and optimized, you would check-in once every two months. We are excited to have you join our global team and help serve the world in philanthropy!

    Responsibilities:

    • Evaluate and manage UniversalGiving®’s AWS environment to ensure cost efficiency and effective performance.
    • Identify and recommend AWS services suited to our organization’s operational needs.
    • Manage our AWS account setup and configurations responsibly.
    • Monitor performance, traffic, and storage while minimizing costs.
    • Provide updates on security
    • Provide recommendations on coding standards and guidelines
    • Communicate up to the Lead Engineer on progress/performance from your implementation.

    Qualifications

    • BS/MS Degree in Computer Science (or equivalent)
    • 4+ years of application development experience using JAVA, MySQL, React
    • Experience with client-side web technologies such as JavaScript, CSS
    • Familiarity with source controls such as SVN and CVS
    • Knowledge of design patterns and object-oriented modeling (e.g. UML)
    • Thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
    • Strong debugging skills and principles
    • Familiarity with GitHub for CICD and bug tracking systems such as Jira
    • Strong experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), including cost management, optimization, and performance analysis.

    Duration and Location

    • The position is 5-20 hours per month.
    • Minimum 6 months commitment
    • We provide remote positions with a highly globally focused team from more than 20 countries, including U.K., Canada, China, Japan, Ukraine, Georgia, the Philippines, Haiti, Germany, Canada, the Kurdish population, South Korea, the U.K., Brazil, Kenya, and many more.
