What You Will Do as a Reading Volunteer

Because this is a strictly non-medical, non-clinical role, your visits center entirely on literary connection, gentle engagement, and permitted volunteer boundaries:

• Reading Aloud: Sharing chapters from favorite novels, classic poetry, short stories, faith-based texts, or the local morning paper.
• Sparking Conversation: Pausing between chapters to discuss character moments, share nostalgia prompted by a passage, or simply enjoy a warm chat.
• Soothing Bedside Presence: Reading softly to resting or late-stage patients who benefit from the comforting rhythm and peaceful presence of a warm voice.
• Caregiver Respite: Keeping a patient engaged through continuous storytime so their family caregiver can safely step away for an hour to nap, run errands, or refresh their mind.
