About the Role
Restoring.Our.Youth.Organization is looking for an individual who can deliver excellent service to all of its target communities and program/team participants. The Assistant Head Coach ensures that the dance program remains an integral part of Restoring.Our.Youth.Organization Inc. And will also be responsible for scheduling and overseeing all parts of an assigned dance team as well as planning and running a full schedule of annual concerts and dance performances. The volunteer Head Coach will also be in charge of various tasks and responsibilities that contribute to the ongoing success of the organization. Your job position description can be altered at the discretion of the Dance Program Director.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Promote all of Restoring.Our.Youth.Organization’s social media platforms, contact information, and the Restoring.Our.Youth.Organization website
- Plan, organise, and lead by example for the assigned dance program/team
- Monitor, guide and supervise dance program members and leaders.
- Expand and improve the dance program.
- Plan program schedules for dance events and practices
- Ensure music for all performances on CD/ IPod format are put together
- Ensure Dance communications for the ROYO is together
- Oversee attendance monitoring and takes care of attendance communications with parents
- Attend required staff meetings and trainings designated by the Dance Program Director
- Apply ROY’s (mission, vision, motto, and values) when dealing with member services
- Follow Restoring.Our.Youth.Organization best practices, processes, and procedures regarding the intake process of a Restoring. Our. Youth. organization member
- Build relationships with members; helps members connect with one another and to the Restoring.Our.Youth.Organization
- Communicate and works with other departments
- Handle additional tasks as needed
- Work as a team member; respect fellow ROY members/ and be professional in communications
- Develop positive relationships with members fostering an atmosphere of respect, open to correction, operational excellences, teamwork, and striving for excellence
- Be outgoing and take the initiative to build committed and connected long-term relationships with members
- Go the extra mile to make each members’ experience at the ROY organization a pleasant one
- Support social and recreational activities for the youth with the purpose of recruiting and retaining youth in the initiative and providing opportunities for positive engagement
- Ensures that potential members are referred to appropriate staff for proper registration procedures
What You Bring to the Role
- The position requires that the individuals be able to walk unaided up and down hills and over uneven terrain
- May be on your feet for long periods of time
- Maintain good health (or willing to), due to the active demands of the position
- If you are aware of physical demands that could interfere with the responsibilities of this position please notify the Dance Program Director
- Must be located in the United States of America, preferably in the Chicagoland area.
- High school diploma/ GED required
- Must pass a successful Criminal background check with our partnering platform Sterling Volunteer company
- Experience preferred in leading a dance program, after school programs, or youth related activities.
- Knowledge of Music and Dance resources (or ideas of how to tap into these resources)
- Must have the ability to organize, delegate, and evaluate dance programs/teams.
- Comprehension of Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern, Lyrical, and Hip Hop Dance techniques and styles
- Skilled in setting up and troubleshooting sound systems/staging
- Coaching skills (not required, but recommended)
- Confident communicator and outstanding interpersonal skills
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading and layout/design skills are required
- Have a strong public presence – articulate, optimistic and energetic with the ability to motivate and inspire people at all levels
- Ability to connect with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Open to adjusting and modelling the ROY’s mission, vision, moto, and values.
- Willing to reach out to the Dance Program Director or Assistant Dance Program Director to gain support and make proper decisions when in doubt
- Must work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends (as needed).
- Should work effectively with high-risk populations.
- Must prioritize tasks and work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Possess excellent crisis/conflict management skills and/or willing to learn.
- Operate a computer to enter necessary data on the behalf of the ROY organization. (*When assigned to do so)
- Desire to learn and grow professionally in the field of non-profit

- Proficient in Google Suite and open to learning new tools.
- Adaptable, collaborative, and self-motivated
- Establish and maintain highly professional effective working relationships with senior management, and other appointed officials, including staff, community and business leaders, donors, board members, and others encountered in the course of work
- Use a high degree of tact, discretion and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive situations and concerned groups and/or individuals
