BMC Volunteer Position
- Name of Volunteer Position: Ambassador
- Location: BMC campus
Purpose
- Serve as a representative of the Boston Medical Center and welcome people as they enter the facility. This position is essential to providing a welcoming environment, with the duties of wayfinding, answering questions, giving directions and occasionally escorting people to offices, units, appointments.
Description (includes duties, responsibilities, what the volunteer may learn or gain in experience, any special abilities needed, etc.)
Ambassadors:
- Attend training on Ambassador services
- Warmly greet patients and visitors and ask if they need any assistance
- Gain insight into patient population, functions of the hospital, work environment
- Present a calming, professional and welcoming demeanor
- Be aware patients, family and visitors may be dealing with stress on multiple levels such as feeling unwell, late for an appointment, lost, confused/overwhelmed
Requirements
- Ability to communicate in a welcoming and professional manner
- Able to take initiative
- Organizational skills
- Customer Service skills
- General knowledge of hospital environment, patient needs, staff relations
- Able to guide people to various destinations across the campus
- Occasionally assist with a wheelchair or escorting patients facing physical/other challenges
Other requirements:
- Submitting vaccination records for medical clearance
- A background check, and orientation.
Basic requirements are a commitment to volunteering for a minimum of six months, with a minimum of one 3 hour shift each week. Shifts in general run every 3 hours, beginning at 6 AM and ending at 6 PM, Monday through Friday.
