Donation Sorting with Friends in Tents

Basic volunteer duties involved with this assignment:

1. Sanitizing, Sorting and organizing donations that come in to be put on shelves. Keeping clothing in correct location by size and style.
2. Sweep floors, clean the shelves, and make a pile of unwanted items to be donated.
3. Working in the Bookstore and Little Library by keeping the books in order and featuring new books that come in. Make sure that the Little Library outside has new items in it weekly.
4. Work in the basement in the food pantry and sort and organize food donations and put items on shelves.
5. During open hours -- warm up meals in a microwave for homeless visitors.
6. During open hours -- Helping clients sign in and shop for items needed. Tracking client sign-in and donor sign-in.

Basic volunteer qualifications involved with this assignment:

Someone who likes organizing things, multi-tasker. Someone open to working with the homeless community as well as Summit County housed residents.

Summit County residents and friends living in tents or on the streets.

What is the anticipated benefit of this volunteer service to those receiving the service?

Volunteers will keep things organized so that clients can find correct sizes and items they need. The volunteers should be welcoming to clients so they feel like they are shopping for items on their own, but with assistance if needed.

What specific skills will the volunteer need?

Some light lifting, carts to move things around, up and down stairs. Volunteers are allowed to sit when needed.

2 shifts available:

• M&F the facility is open from 12-4; W the facility is open from 12-6: 12:00 to 16:00 EST
• This is on Thursdays and it is when Friends in Tents is closed to the public: 12:00 to 15:00 EST
