Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Enhabit Hospice. We’re excited that you want to make a difference in the lives of patients and families facing life-limiting illness.
The next step in the process is to schedule an in-person volunteer interview. Please let us know your availability so we can arrange a time to meet to answer all your questions.
We serve a 60-mile radius from our Wichita office, so I’m happy to meet with you anywhere within that area or you’re welcome to come into the Wichita office for your interview — whichever is most convenient for you.

💜 About Volunteering with Enhabit
At Enhabit, we believe that hospice care is more than symptom management — it’s about honoring dignity, humanity, and connection. Our volunteers play a vital role in that mission by providing companionship, comfort, and support to patients and their loved ones. Whether it’s through visits, respite for caregivers, helping with everyday tasks, or simply being a compassionate presence, volunteers are a cornerstone of the care we provide.
🤝 What to Expect as a Volunteer
We have a wonderful team of volunteers who support our patients, families, and staff in many meaningful ways. Our volunteer team meets quarterly for training, and most volunteer work is done independently, allowing you to set a schedule that works best for you.
Volunteers can start at the age of 14. Our team includes college students who volunteer to gain experience for PA school, future healthcare careers, or to enhance their résumés, as well as retirees and community members who are passionate about giving back.
Volunteers who visit a single patient typically spend about one hour per week with them.
The number of hours you volunteer is completely up to you — some volunteers visit multiple patients and make a full day of it.
Others choose to help in the office by answering phones or assisting in the supply closet with checking expiration dates.
This flexibility allows you to volunteer in a way that matches your availability, skills, and interests — whether that’s patient visits, behind-the-scenes support, or a combination of both.
🌟 We Are a Team
At Enhabit, our volunteers are never alone — you are part of a supportive and encouraging team. Volunteers have the full support of our staff and the entire volunteer team. We regularly connect through quarterly trainings, town halls, culture committee events, and a monthly volunteer support meeting on Teams.
While much of the volunteer work is done independently, we make sure to come together often as a group. These opportunities to connect help volunteers share experiences, support one another, and stay informed — ensuring that you always feel valued, connected, and part of something bigger.
🌟 Ways Volunteers Make a Difference
Visiting patients and providing companionship
Supporting caregivers with respite time so they can take a break and recharge
Assisting with legacy projects such as recording stories, creating memory books, or helping patients leave something meaningful behind for their loved ones
Providing vigil support — sitting with patients in their final hours so they are not alone
Helping the hospice team understand patient and family needs
Offering specialized support such as veteran companionship, bereavement follow-up, or therapy dog visits
Assisting with light housekeeping or meal preparation to provide comfort and support to patients and their families
Participating in our Comfort Paws program — bringing certified therapy dogs or well-behaved pets to visit patients and offer emotional support
In addition to patient visits, volunteers may also support our team by helping with:
Planning and assisting at the Annual Memorial Service
Celebrating patient birthdays with cards or small gestures
Making caregiver support calls and tuck-in calls before weekends and holidays
Assisting with bereavement mailings to families after the loss of a loved one
Preparing and sending holiday mailings to patients, caregivers, and families
These opportunities ensure that every patient and family touched by hospice care feels remembered, supported, and valued.
If you feel called to connect, comfort, and care for others during one of life’s most important journeys, you’re in the right place. We’re grateful for your interest and look forward to the possibility of welcoming you to our volunteer team.
Please reply via email or call our office at 316-315-6425 to schedule your interview with our volunteer coordinator, who will guide you through each step of the process.
