Member of the Board of Advisors (Volunteer)

Organization Description Thank you for your interest in serving on the Wildwoods Advisory Board.

For more than 25 years, Wildwoods has enriched lives through nature by creating opportunities for children, families, and communities to nurture their connection with the outdoors, strengthen their wellbeing, and experience joy.

We use ecology as a framework for strengthening people, relationships, and communities. Our programs bring together ecology, education, and public health to foster learning, resilience, and belonging.

Our Advisory Board plays a vital role in advancing this mission by providing strategic guidance and professional expertise. We value collaboration, accountability, curiosity, and a shared commitment to strengthening both Wildwoods and the communities we serve.

We're especially interested in candidates who:

• Are based in Los Angeles.
• Have previous board service and fundraising experience.
• Enjoy building relationships and find joy in the outdoors.

Role Description

While the complete Board Pledge is shared during the onboarding process, prospective members should expect to:

• Actively engage by attending regular board meetings (attend a minimum of four board meetings a year, bi-monthly occurrence), serving on a committee, participating in organizational events, and staying informed about Wildwoods' work and strategic priorities.
• Serve as an ambassador by promoting Wildwoods within your personal and professional networks, cultivating partnerships, and helping expand our visibility and impact.
• Support fundraising and financial sustainability by participating in fundraising efforts and contributing to Wildwoods' annual fundraising goals through a combination of personal giving and/or securing support from your network.
• Contribute to strong governance by helping establish strategic goals, supporting board development, exercising sound judgment, and ensuring the organization's long-term sustainability.
• Champion a collaborative board culture by bringing curiosity, accountability, respect for diverse perspectives, and a commitment to acting in the best interest of Wildwoods and the communities we serve.

Please note:

This is a volunteer position. Although our board is titled "Advisory," as a fiscally-sponsored project of Community Partners, our Advisory Board takes on all of the responsibilities of a Governance Board. Operating under the umbrella of Community Partners’ 501c3 designation, their Board of Directors is the legal board of record for all of the 180+ projects that are part of that organization along with Wildwoods. Community Partners’ board does not directly engage with projects, provides no governance oversight, nor provides any financial support. All of those duties are performed by our Advisory Board. Wildwoods would not exist without their dedication and service.
