Youth/School Group Volunteer Projects

Jefferson County Parks & Open Space (JCPOS) partners with schools and youth groups for hands-on volunteer projects that support healthy parks and open spaces. We welcome groups of all ages and tailor opportunities to fit students’ interests and physical abilities. From habitat restoration to removing invasive species, projects are designed to connect students with nature, community service, and real-world learning. There’s no cost to participate — JCPOS provides all tools, materials, and on-site guidance to ensure a safe, fun, and educational experience. Groups can join us for a one-time project or create recurring opportunities throughout the year. Together, we can inspire the next generation of environmental stewards!

Project Types

Park Restoration

Involves picking up trash, clearing vegetation, putting mulch around plants, cleaning up fishing lines, and/or pulling up invasive weeds.

Plant Restoration

Involves removing invasive weeds, seeding and rehabilitating disturbed areas, transplanting native grasses and shrubs, and/or placing materials and signage to discourage unauthorized use.

Trail Restoration

Involves creating new trails, closing and restoring social or unauthorized trails, trimming vegetation, seeding and/or transplanting native plants to help damaged areas recover.
