    Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive. We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach more than 73,000 individuals and families, including almost 13,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are in living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.

    The CAMBA Education Center offers English classes to individuals who are at least 16 years old, who are not enrolled or required to be enrolled in the New York City public school system, and who live or work in the Flatbush/East Flatbush communities of Brooklyn, New York. Each year, over 1,000 people from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, and Latin America enroll in our Basic Literacy, English, Computer Literacy, and GED classes. In general, we provide learners with the type of educational, case management, career counseling, and technical services that can help them realize their family, educational, employment, and/or other personal goals.

    Position: Career Readiness Volunteer

    Reports To: Supervisor of Student Affairs

    Location: 10 Snyder Avenue (aka 955 Flatbush Avenue) – 3rd Fl Brooklyn, NY 11226

    What The Career Readiness Volunteer Does:

    • Collaborate with the Supervisor of Student Affairs to schedule and facilitate appropriate activities.
    • Help students improve their awareness of job sectors where employees are in high demand.
    • Help students set realistic employment goals.
    • Assist students in drafting individual resumes and cover letters.
    • Schedule and help facilitate mock interviews for students.
    • Inform students about open positions.
    • Counsel students on how to apply for available positions.
    • Volunteers are encouraged to attend staff meetings and on-site professional development sessions when available.
    • Volunteers may choose to explore professional publications or resources to stay informed about current employment or career training methods and best practices.

    Minimum Education/Experience Required:

    • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with a variety of people at all levels.
    • Be comfortable using computer equipment, smart phones, and the Internet.
    • Have a commitment to helping people improve their skills.
    • Have good interpersonal skills.

    Other Requirements:

    • Experience in career or job development, case management, or counseling.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Google Docs.
    • Literacy in other Microsoft Office and Google applications.
    • Have a background or interest in career or job development.
    • Possession of Business, Counseling, or Communication degree. (Preferred)
    • Bilingual in either French, Haitian Creole, Spanish, Arabic, or Russian. (Preferred)
    • Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree. (Preferred)

    Compensation: $0

    When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.

    Status: Part-time (3 hours per week) (9AM to 12PM, 1PM to 4PM, or 5:30PM to 8:30PM)
