Mock Interviewing with Participants (Step into Tech)

Join UNITE-LA as a volunteer this summer to make a lasting impact on the lives and futures of L.A.’s youth and young adults.

Why: For many of our participants, this is their first experience interviewing and will form the base of their future professional career. You can help by interviewing them and providing feedback on their interview skills, resume and preparing them for their future opportunities in tech.

Who: An important part of UNITE-LA’s mission is to improve career and post-secondary outcomes for L.A.’s youth and young adults through college access, career pathway, workforce programming and job/internship opportunities. Step into Tech is a paid work-based learning opportunity connecting justice involved and impacted individuals 18-28 to pathways in to careers in tech.

What to Expect: We will provide instruction and material before interviews.

The interviewer (YOU):

• Will review resume and mock job description
• Will conduct the interview using a scoring rubric
• Will provide feedback to the student about areas they are doing well or areas that need to be improved
• Will complete the checklist and scoring rubric
• The whole interview process should take no more than 30 min
• Interviewers should dress professionally (business casual).

What's Required: Time Commitment: 50 minutes

• No tech background required.
• Volunteer mentors for Step into Tech must possess patience, empathy, and a willingness to guide individuals through their career journey.
• Commitment to meetings and open communication are essential.
• Passion for supporting young adults on their pathway to success
