Michigan Humane welcomes volunteers to assist our animal care staff with getting our adoption center ready to open for the day. Tasks volunteers may be asked to help with include setting up kennels with fresh water and bedding, preparing breakfast for the animals, washing dishes and laundry, sweeping, mopping and taking out the trash for the center, cleaning animal kennels, or other organization projects as needed.
To assist in this role, volunteers should be comfortable with:
- Cleaning up animal waste
- Following shelter cleaning protocols
- Working with chemicals for cleaning/sanitizing
- Standing, bending, and reaching during their shift
Volunteers must possess good observation and communication skills; be patient and willing to follow Michigan Humane's service standard: " Every person and animal deserves my best self, my best service, and my best care".

It you'd like to stop in and say hello our staff before you decide to register for a volunteer shift, you can find us all the back in the back of the building and to the right of the grooming salon.
