    About the Program

The Anchored in Success program at LaGuardia Community College, powered by iMentor, supports students who are adult learners returning to school and transitioning from non-credit ACE programs into credit-bearing coursework. They bring determination, resilience, and valuable life experience, and your mentorship can make a real difference. By offering guidance, encouragement, and practical advice, you can help students gain confidence, navigate college systems, explore career opportunities, and achieve their academic and career goals. Your support can be the key that helps them succeed and thrive.

    Why Mentorship Matters

As a mentor, you’ll help students:

    • Set realistic academic and career goals
    • Build time management and study strategies
    • Explore career pathways and networking opportunities
    • Navigate college systems and balance responsibilities

    Responsibilities

    • Write to your mentee weekly through iMentor’s secure online platform to build connection and provide encouragement.
    • Meet virtually once a month through the iMentor platform to check in, set goals, and celebrate progress.
    • Use the platform for guided prompts, secure messaging, and consistent check-ins
    • Commit about 4 hours a month to mentoring
    • Optional in-person meetings, if both you and your mentee prefer

Ideal Volunteers Will Have (Preferred but Not Required)

    • College graduate
    • Experience in technology, IT, business, or related sectors
    • Strong interpersonal and listening skills
    • A belief in the power of education and mentorship
    • Cultural humility and respect for diverse experiences

While these qualities are preferred, we welcome anyone who wants to make a difference in the lives of adult learners and is passionate about helping others succeed.

    Commitment & Support

    • Time: ~4 hours per month for one academic year
    • Location: Virtual (with optional in-person meetings in NYC)
    • Training & Support: Provided through the iMentor platform
    • This is a fully volunteer, unpaid position, offering a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of adult learners. While there is no financial compensation, mentors gain the rewarding experience of supporting students’ growth, celebrating their achievements, and helping them succeed academically and professionally.
