Description:We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic After-School Program Tutor to support students in academic subjects, homework assistance, and enrichment activities. The ideal candidate will foster a positive learning environment and help students build confidence and improve academic performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide academic support in subjects such as math, reading, and writing
- Assist students with homework and school projects
- Support program activities that promote learning and engagement
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment
- Communicate with program staff and families as needed
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Volunteer Requirements – After-School Program Tutor
- Currently pursuing or holds a Bachelor's degree in education, child development, social work, recreation, or a related field preferred. (all fields and majors welcomed though)
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working with youth in educational settings, after-school programs, camps, or similar environments is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership, strong communication skills, and the ability to stay organized in a dynamic setting.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of students, staff, families, and community stakeholders.
- CPR and First Aid certified (or willing to become certified).
- Ability to pass a background check.
Work Environment
- Position Dates: October 7th- May 20th
- Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:00pm-6:30pm 4:00pm Start time is flexible to accommodate class schedules and jobs and commuting needs. The schedule will expand as the program grows.*
- 4:15pm – 6:30 PM (active program hours when children are onsite).
- Flexibility to volunteer occasional hours outside of standard times, including evenings or weekends, as needed for special events or program needs. (If available)
- This role takes place in a variety of environments including classrooms, recreation spaces, and shared program areas (indoor and outdoor).
- Responsibilities may involve sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying program supplies or equipment.
- Tutors will engage with children in a hands-on, activity-based setting focused on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math), creative arts, and recreational learning.
