About Oppia
The Oppia Foundation works to make quality education accessible to underserved learners around the world. Through its online learning platform, Oppia, the Foundation develops interactive, story-based lessons that make learning engaging and effective for students who face barriers to education.
Built through the collaboration of volunteers, Oppia brings together people who believe that access to education should not depend on a learner’s circumstances. Our grants team helps secure the funding needed to develop this work and reach more learners.
About the role
We are looking for a Grant Researcher to identify funding opportunities and assess whether they are a practical fit for Oppia. You will investigate funder requirements, maintain accurate records and prepare recommendations that help the team decide where to invest its time. This role suits someone who enjoys careful research and can explain both the potential and the limitations of an opportunity.
Responsibilities
Identify relevant funding. Find opportunities supporting education access, digital learning and open-source technology. Research the funder’s priorities and previous awards to assess the strength of the match.
Check eligibility and requirements. Verify applicant status, geography, deadlines, funding amounts, eligible costs and application steps using official sources. Flag exclusions, programme commitments and information that remains unconfirmed.
Maintain the grants tracker. Record findings, source links and dates checked. Update existing entries and check for duplicates before adding new opportunities.
Rank and recommend. Apply the team’s scoring framework and explain the reasoning behind each assessment. Recommend whether to pursue, monitor or set aside an opportunity.
Prepare research briefs. Give writers a concise summary of shortlisted opportunities, including requirements, supporting sources and questions to resolve before drafting.
Skills and experience
You can find reliable information, interpret detailed requirements and summarise your findings clearly in English. You are comfortable with spreadsheets and shared documents, attentive to detail and able to manage agreed deadlines. Grant research or nonprofit experience is useful but not essential.
