We always try to affirm and empower the moms who come through our door, to help them to be in control of their lives, to achieve their dreams. Although practical necessities and information on local resources are near-term priorities for them, it is perhaps more critical to build their overall self-esteem and confidence that they can be good mothers - and that they are "worth more" than the way they may have been treated by others. Education can be a gateway to build that confidence and open new doors in their lives. Tutoring one young mom recently to help her get a General Education Development diploma may be transformational for her, enabling her to achieve more than she ever felt would be possible. It would be great if we had individuals to call on who would be willing to tutor new moms at our office, perhaps during times when we aren't open for clients, and possibly with care provided for their babies, so they can concentrate.
