    Volunteer Economist Fellow

Organization: International Financial Women’s Foundation (IFWF)

    Location: Remote

    Position Type: Volunteer Fellowship

    Time Commitment: Flexible (research-based, project-oriented)

    About IFWF

The International Financial Women’s Foundation (IFWF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing financial literacy, economic inclusion, and long-term financial empowerment for women and immigrant communities. Our work integrates independent economic research, policy analysis, and public education to examine structural financial barriers across the immigrant financial lifecycle and to inform mission-driven programs and advocacy.

    About the Fellowship

IFWF is seeking a Volunteer Economist Fellow to join our Economic Department and contribute to independent, public-interest economic research. This fellowship is designed for economists with formal academic training who wish to apply rigorous analytical methods to nonprofit, policy-relevant work.

This is an exploratory, research-focused fellowship, emphasizing academic integrity, collaboration, and social impact rather than consulting or client-oriented activity.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct independent economic and policy research related to financial inclusion and economic integration
    • Support research briefs, literature reviews, and applied data analysis
    • Contribute to reports focused on immigrant- and women-centered financial issues
    • Collaborate with IFWF leadership and volunteer economists on defined research projects
    • Help translate research findings into accessible, public-facing educational materials

    Who Should Apply

This fellowship is open only to applicants who meet the following criteria:

    • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Economics from a U.S.-accredited university
    • Strong academic grounding in economic theory, applied economics, or policy analysis
    • Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research (academic or policy-oriented)
    • Strong analytical writing skills
    • Commitment to ethical, independent, mission-aligned research

Graduate degree holders, early-career economists, and independent researchers with formal economics training are encouraged to apply.

    What You’ll Gain

    • Hands-on experience in independent, nonprofit-based economic research
    • Exposure to real-world financial inclusion and policy challenges
    • Opportunities to contribute to published research briefs and reports
    • Professional references and research portfolio development
    • Meaningful contribution to IFWF’s public-interest mission

    How to Apply

    Please submit:

    • A brief statement of interest
    • Your resume or CV
    • Relevant research or writing samples (optional)

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
