The San Dieguito Heritage Museum is seeking enthusiastic, friendly individuals with a keen interest in history and community to serve as Museum Docents. This is a great volunteer opportunity for those who would like to learn more about history and get more deeply involved in their local community!
The San Dieguito Heritage Museum was founded in 1988 to collect, preserve and interpret the local history of the San Dieguito River area, including Leucadia, Encinitas, Olivenhain, Cardiff, Solana Beach, Del Mar, and Rancho Santa Fe. The Museum is housed at The Heritage Ranch, a unique and rustic property nestled in the city of Encinitas. This is a fun and dynamic museum, deeply rooted in the local community.
Docent training will be provided, so no prior knowledge is required.
We are flexible and will work around your schedule. Typically, greeters, guides & docents volunteer two afternoons a month.
Role of the greeters, guides & docents
Greeters, guides & docents interpret local history while guiding visitors through exhibits;
Encourage participation in museum activities and events;
Manage gift shop sales;
Assist with special tours;
Assist with a range of museum projects: assist with accessions, preparation of exhibits, conducting research, data entry, photography among other tasks.
