Pawthenticity (www.pawthenticity.org) is a transparency initiative working to improve animal welfare and consumer awareness by building the first public, data-driven registry of dog breeders in the United States.
We take information that is already public (but hard to find) and make it easy to access. That includes government inspection reports, licensing histories, kennel sizes, and violation records, all summarized in plain language so people can easily view and understand. We also list the breed(s) offered and link to the breeder's website and/or social media.
Our goal is simple: make breeder information accessible, accurate, and transparent. More than 5,000 breeder profiles are already live, and the project continues to grow every day.
Volunteers may assist with one or more of the following:
You might be a good fit if you:
No prior experience is required—training and guidance are provided.
Shelters across the country are overflowing, fueled by overbreeding and limited breeder oversight. Information about breeders exists, but it is fragmented—often buried in PDFs or scattered across agencies—making it difficult for people to use.
Pawthenticity is not anti-breeder; we are pro-transparency. By bringing public records into one clear, accessible place, we help create accountability and informed decision-making for everyone involved.
If a flexible, fully remote volunteer role researching breeders and looking at puppy photos sounds like your kind of thing, we’d love to hear from you!
Send us a short note telling us what caught your interest and whether you have any relevant experience (research, data work, animal welfare, legal, tech, etc.). No résumé required!
