Pawthenticity is a small but growing website working to bring transparency to US dog breeding.
Each day in the US, ~1,000 dogs are euthanized due to lack of space. The larger issue? Overbreeding with limited public oversight. While federal and state inspections exist, the information is scattered, buried in PDFs, and written in technical language.
At Pawthenticity (www.pawthenticity.org), we've created public profiles for every federally and state-licensed breeder in the US (5,000+). We summarize their USDA and/or state inspections, list the breed(s) they offer, link to their social media, and document their litter history (ie "This breeder produces a litter every X days").
The result is a centralized, searchable resource that allows people to easily see, understand, and compare a breeder's history at a glance. Dog parents can also share experiences about their dogs’ health and behavior (even DNA!) in their breeder's profile.
Our long-term goal is to maintain a public database that gives dog lovers clear, accurate, and unbiased information about breeders, so they can make responsible decisions.

Volunteers NEVER contact breeders.
All work is based solely on publicly available information such as inspection records, business filings, and breeders’ own public listings. Pawthenticity is a neutral, data-driven platform. We're not anti-breeder. We're pro-transparency.
If a flexible, fully remote volunteer role researching breeders and looking at puppy photos sounds like your kind of thing, we’d love to hear from you!
Send us a short note telling us what caught your interest and whether you have any relevant experience (research, data work, animal welfare, legal, tech, etc.). No résumé required!
