About I Kare NC
I Kare NC is a community-based nonprofit led by people with lived experience. We support youth and families through conflict resolution training, mentorship, restorative practices, and non-carceral supports that reduce school-to-court and justice involvement.
Position Summary
The Restorative Practices Coordinator will help I Kare NC implement restorative approaches in schools and community settings to prevent conflict from escalating into suspensions, court referrals, or arrests. This role supports youth and families through circle processes, restorative conferences, and follow-up planning in collaboration with school partners and community stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate restorative circles and conferences (youth-centered, trauma-informed, culturally responsive)
- Conduct pre-circle preparation (intake, consent, safety screening, participant readiness)
- Develop restorative agreements and coordinate follow-ups (2-week and 4-week check-ins)
- Collaborate with school administrators, counselors, and community partners to build a referral reduction pathway
- Support training for staff/youth (basic restorative practices, de-escalation, conflict communication)
- Maintain simple documentation (case logs, agreements, outcomes tracking)
- Participate in monthly planning meetings and contribute to program improvement
Qualifications (What We’re Looking For)
- Experience facilitating restorative practices (circles, mediation, conferencing) with youth and/or adults
- Strong de-escalation skills and ability to manage emotionally charged situations safely
- Trauma-informed approach; commitment to non-carceral solutions and youth development
- Comfortable working with schools, families, and justice-system partners
- Reliable transportation and ability to work some evenings as needed
- Preferred: Training/certification in restorative practices, mediation, social work, peer support, or related fields
- Preferred: Lived experience (system impacted) and/or deep community ties
What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)
- Build relationships with at least one pilot school/community partner
- Facilitate 3–5 restorative responses with documented agreements and follow-ups
- Help finalize I Kare NC’s restorative referral process and templates
