In the SCAN-LC study, USC researchers are looking into the relationship between a specific area of the brain, called the locus coeruleus, and changes in memory and thinking skills over time. The purpose of this study is to look at a specific area of the brain that is important to thinking skills and memory. This area of the brain is one of the first areas to show signs of Alzheimer’s disease in older adults who later get dementia. We hope to learn whether changes in the brain can help identify very early signs of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
