Descripción
Volunteers at our medical and surgical camps are divided into clinical and non-clinical roles.
They work together to streamline patient intake, maintain sanitary operating environments, and deliver care.
- Medical Volunteers
These include doctors, surgeons, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, and medical students etc.
- Responsibilities:
- Performing pre-operative screening, vital checks, and post-operative monitoring.
- Assisting or performing surgical procedures and treatments (only within their licensed scope of practice and under supervision).
- Dispensing medication, preparing surgical instruments, and ensuring a sterile operating environment.
- Providing health education and routine check-ups to patients.
- Qualifications:
- Active, verified medical or nursing license in their home country or host country.
- Up-to-date immunizations (e.g., Hepatitis B, Influenza) and a clear background check.
- Relevant clinical experience in emergency response, surgery, and public health among others.
- Non-Medical Volunteers
These include administrators, translators, logistics coordinators, and general support staff.
- Responsibilities:
- Managing triage lines, crowd control, and patient registration.
- Translating and interpreting between medical staff and local patients.
- Handling inventory of supplies, cleaning facilities, and assisting with meal/water distribution.
- Entering data, managing records, and directing patients to the correct stations.
- Qualifications:
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, ideally with cross-cultural communication abilities.
- Fluency in English languages or multiple languages is highly valuable.
- A genuine desire to help and the physical stamina to work long, demanding hours in temporary or remote setups.
- General Details
- Time Commitment: Typically ranges from 1 to 4 weeks for short-term camps, though some some times we require longer commitments.
- Ethical Standards: Strictly adhering to patient confidentiality rules (e.g., no unapproved photography) and host organization policies.
- Licensing Requirements: International volunteers need to apply for a temporary practicing license with local medical councils (e.g., Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council) and secure necessary work clearances and visas.

We a pickup from the Entebbe International Airport, we assemble at our national offices in Kampala City and volunteers are distributed to various locations of the medical and camps.
