Cross Creek Cleanup (Age 16 and under require a chaperone or guardian to be present!)
Join us in our partnership with Sustainable Sandhills to clean litter from Cross Creek and the surrounding areas!
- Date: Saturday, March 21, 2026
- Event Time: 9:00 AM–11:00 AM
- Volunteer Arrival: 8:30 AM
- Volunteer Departure: 11:00 AM
- Volunteer Meetup: Signs will point to the meetup area once you arrive in the CFBG parking lot.
Purpose: Volunteers will help clean up Cross Creek and some of the surrounding roadways. Cleaning up creeks or other tributaries that flow into the Cape Fear River helps keep trash from being carried by the smaller tributary into the river and improve the environment for river wildlife.
Important Details
- Gloves, vests, trash pickers, and bags will be provided for volunteers.
- Volunteers can reduce waste by bringing a reusable water bottle.
- This is a creek cleanup! Be prepared to get wet and wear water-resistant gear if you have it!
- Bringing a towel and a change of clothes including shoes and socks would be advisable.
- In case of changes due to weather, all volunteers who signed up using Idealist will be sent an update via email.
- Please note the volunteer arrival time. Give yourself enough time to sign in, sign a waiver, and receive supplies before cleanup begins at 9:00 a.m.
Very Important Details (Please note that we are using our partner’s policies for this event.)
- Sustainable Sandhills general rule of thumb for litter cleanups is volunteers 16 and younger should be accompanied by a chaperone or guardian.
- Waivers for this event will need to be signed the day of the event. Volunteers, 17 years of age and unaccompanied by a parent or guardian, will still need to have a parent or guardian sign their waiver.
- A CFBG Volunteer Application is not needed for this event, only a Sustainable Sandhills waiver.
