Welcome!
I'm so glad you're checking out our post from Gentiva Hospice of McMinnville, TN.
Currently our Volunteer Dept seeks to a couple VETERANS for visiting patients for companionship: at home, in assisted living facility, nursing facility, and boarding homes.
Requirements include:
Must be 18 to do Direct Care (only means patient & volunteer are face to face)
Must have a valid state issued ID
Must have auto insurance if you are a driver (If you do not drive, you can still do visits via public transportation to facilities, boarding homes, etc.)
Must have or willing to have a TB test completed (TB Gold Series we pay for this, one blood draw)
Must be willing to complete 13hr of training per year for Medicaid / Medicare rules & regulations.
Our VETERAN volunteers: Honor our patients with a flag (table top), honorary pin, certificate of appreciation, and a last rights flag if it is their wish to be drapped post death.
We have a program called We Honor Veterans. This program teaches our employees and volunteers things important to our veterans as well as their families. We are currently a level 4 & there are only 5 levels. We continue to strive for excellence for our Veterans.
Do you enjoy reading? Some of our patients enjoy someone to read newspapers, westerns, & the Bible...
Are you a musician by heart? You could play your instrument for relaxation for patients! And get your practice in!
Do you enjoy helping fellow VETERANS? Sometimes a cup of coffee and small talk is all they need to be comforted durng this hard season of life.
Occasionally, we have someone that just needs a kind person to come play cards!
Our patients need companionship (18yrs & up) and would love to have you by their side for an hour or so while their caregiver goes to pay bills or buy groceries, etc. you would be surprised what this can do for someone with little to no family living near by. During this time the patient may enjoy rest, cards, tv, reading, quiet played music, etc.
Our Admin volunteers (16 yrs & up) can work in the office and help file, fax, breakdown old charts, help setup for events, put away stock, check dates on supplies, answer phones, etc.
Volunteering is the gift of TIME.
Sharing your time with others is more of a blessing than we realize until we need it ourselves.
If you just want to inquire about being a volunteer, feel free to call me anytime!
