About Havenwatch
Havenwatch Foundation for Child Protection is a civilian-led, non-profit initiative focused on addressing online child exploitation through ethical, evidence-based, and legally compliant workflows.
We support lawful reporting, legal screening, and cross-platform escalation of cases involving online exploitation and abuse. Our work spans multiple jurisdictions globally, collaborating with platforms, NGOs, and appropriate reporting channels.
We do not engage in vigilantism, enforcement actions, or public exposure.
Role Overview
Field Legal Reviewers operate at the critical junction between investigation and action.
In this role, you will assess whether cases meet legal thresholds under child protection and exploitation laws, determine jurisdictional relevance, and guide appropriate escalation pathways across international contexts.
This is not just legal review—it’s structured decision-making in a landscape where laws differ by country, but harm does not.
Key Responsibilities
- Review case files for legal sufficiency under child protection and exploitation laws
- Assess whether evidence meets thresholds for escalation, cyber-tipping, or lawful handover
- Identify applicable jurisdictions, including cross-border considerations in online cases
- Recommend appropriate reporting pathways (e.g., platforms, cyber-tip systems, law enforcement channels)
- Evaluate legal risks, gaps, and compliance issues in case handling
- Support teams in aligning actions with international legal frameworks and reporting standards
- Ensure all actions follow Havenwatch’s strict non-vigilant, compliance-first approach
What We’re Looking For
- Background or strong interest in law, criminology, cyber law, or child protection policy
- Understanding of child protection laws (e.g., exploitation, grooming, trafficking, abuse-related statutes)
- Familiarity with U.S.-based frameworks (e.g., cyber tip/reporting structures) is highly valued
- However, this role requires comfort working across international jurisdictions
- Ability to navigate cross-border legal complexity in online environments
- Strong analytical thinking and evidence-based decision-making
- Professional communication and respect for ethical/legal boundaries
Important Notes
- This is not a legal advisory or representation role—you will not act as a lawyer or provide formal legal counsel
- Havenwatch operates globally and handles online exploitation cases across multiple jurisdictions, as well as reported abuse cases where applicable
- The organization is not law enforcement; all actions are limited to lawful reporting and escalation
- Legal and Operations roles do not act as case handlers to preserve oversight integrity
- Work may involve sensitive and distressing material
Impact
Your work ensures that cases are not only compelling—but legally actionable across the right jurisdictions.
You help answer critical questions:
- Does this meet the threshold under relevant child protection laws?
- Where should this go—and who can act on it?
In a system where missteps can invalidate cases, your role acts as a legal safeguard and pathway builder.
Commitment & Flexibility
- Minimum: ~1–2 hours per week or one assigned review task
- Fully remote and asynchronous
- Flexible participation with pause options anytime when needed and options to return as well.

Training Note: Training is primarily self-guided through a comprehensive internal documentation base, supplemented by clarification and support from assigned team leads primarily around the workflow. This is not a step-by-step structured program.
