Become a Volunteer LGBTQ+ Speaker or Ally

SpeakOUT Boston is the longest running LGBTQ+ speakers bureau in the nation. For 50 years, since 1972, SpeakOUT has trained speakers to share their personal stories and engage in dialogue with audiences such as schools, colleges, businesses, faith communities, organizations to raise awareness about the LGBTQ+ community. We have been centered in the Greater Boston area since the beginning, but have also done in-person events throughout the New England states. We now also conduct online engagements that reach across the country and sometimes other countries as well.

The majority of our speakers live within the Greater Boston area, however, we do have speakers who live in other regions who participate in our online programs.

You will need a strong interest in sharing your personal story as an LGBTQ+ person and comfort in discussing your identity and other issues relevant to understanding the LGBTQ+ community. During the training, you will learn public speaking skills, SpeakOUT's format and speaking philosophy, and how to build an effective story by working with tenured speakers. There is a fee for the training that will cover materials.
