Descripción
At The Brisben Center, our Clothing Closet is a vital resource for our residents, providing them with dignity, comfort, and confidence as they transition from homelessness to home. We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented volunteer to help us completely manage this space. You will act as the gatekeeper for incoming donations, ensuring our residents only receive high-quality, in-season items, while helping us maintain our new colored pin inventory rotation system.
Key Responsibilities
- Quality Control (The "Hard No" List): Carefully examine every single donated item for quality. You will strictly enforce our standards by rejecting items with stains, odors (smoke, mildew, strong perfumes), broken zippers, or missing buttons.
- Inventory Rotation: Manage our new colored pin system to track how long items have been on the floor, regularly rotating out older inventory so the closet stays fresh and uncrowded.
- Strategic Sorting & Placement: Determine if items should be kept, re-donated, or trashed. Identify the correct zone (Women's, Men's, Children's) and properly hang shirts and jackets or bin pants, shoes, and undergarments.
- Re-Donation Management: Bag up nice but out-of-season items, or those with minor flaws/inappropriate graphics, and clearly label them with masking tape for re-donation to our community partners.
- Progress Tracking: Utilize the provided 'Progress Log' to document your daily achievements, leave clear stopping points for the next volunteer, and provide feedback to the Volunteer Coordinator.
What We Are Looking For
- An Eye for Dignity: You understand that our residents deserve the best. You are comfortable strictly enforcing our "Current Season Only" rule and keeping a special lookout for high-need items, like 2x and larger sizes.
- Highly Organized & Independent: You thrive in a self-directed environment, love categorizing, and find joy in turning a chaotic pile of donations into a beautifully merchandised rack.
- Reliable Communication: Ability to leave clear, written notes for your fellow volunteers so the closet runs seamlessly even when you aren't there.
