Foster Children who do not do well in school often do not read at grade level -- Children who are not reading at grade level often become a school dropout -- 30% of Oakland and Richmond Youth do not graduate from high school. That number is higher for youth in Foster Care.

Become the consistent, attentive, caring adult in a child's life. Youth need someone to listen, support them, challenge them to do more and think bigger.
Mentors provide accountability, connection to resources, and become a trusted friend.

Be A Mentor provides, training, support, and mentoring activities.
Mentors go out into the community with their mentee to explore, talk, HAVE FUN. and build relationships. We ask for a ONE YEAR FIRM COMMITTMENT, 1 hour per week minimum. Must be at least 21 years old. Must live in Alameda County.
Our mentors say they gain so much from the experience that is life changing for our youth.
