Summary of Position
Volunteers assist the Natural Resources Team in identifying and monitoring the breeding locations of frog species. The data collected will be used to help manage wetland habitats on JCPOS properties. The information will also be sent to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums FrogWatchUSA™ national database on breeding frogs in order to help develop practical strategies for amphibian conservation efforts.
Duties
Monitor a single breeding location to determine species presence and call intensity
Record observations and returns data sheets to the coordinator
Report volunteer service hours regularly through the online reporting system, Offero
Requirements
Attend New JCPOS Volunteer Orientation and program training sessions
Ability to correctly fill out data sheets and follow strict monitoring protocol standards
Bring appropriate clothing and gear and be prepared to be outdoors for an extended period
Volunteers must abide by the JCPOS Park Regulations and established volunteer policies and procedures outlined in the JCPOS Volunteer Handbook
Volunteers must be able to monitor a site once a week during the breeding season, usually between March and July. Monitoring must be performed at least 30 minutes after sunset.
Each shift takes five minutes, not including travel time to site.
